Homeopathic first aid #6 Nosebleeds

A nosebleed occurs when one of the small blood vessels in the nose breaks. Nosebleeds often come as the result of a blow to the nose, heavy sneezing or blowing the nose or perhaps over zealous nose picking, but they can also occur spontaneously, especially in children.

If your child does suffer from
spontaneous nosebleeds, professional homeopathic treatment will address it, but below are the key homeopathic remedies to deal with the acute nosebleed when it hits.

The following remedies are suggested for use in non-severe nosebleeds. If bleeding persists beyond 20 minutes, prompt medical attention is required.

Give the most strongly indicated remedy from the list below once every 5 minutes during a nosebleed. Sometimes, only one dose will be enough.

Aconite
Give this remedy if you or the person suffering the nosebleed is fearful or panicking.

Arnica
This remedy should be given immediately if there is a nosebleed arising from an accident or an injury to the nose.

Phosphorus
Give Phosphorus if there is a tendency to nosebleeds that come on very easily and which are bright red and don’t clot quickly.

Additional advice
Sit upright with the head tilted slightly forwards then place the thumb and first finger slightly above the nostrils and pinch gently so you have to breathe through the mouth. Hold for 5-10 minutes. If possible, an ice pack can also be placed on the bridge of the nose or the back of the neck.
