Homeopathic first aid #8 Heatstroke/Sunstroke

In the UK and elsewhere, we are experiencing an intense heatwave right now and our systems may not be able to adjust to the changes in temperature as well as we’d like.

Signs of sunstroke include the following:

  • Accelerated breathing and heart rate

  • Very raised temperature

  • Confusion

  • Restlessness

  • Hot skin but no sweat

  • Loss of consciousness

A person in this situation needs to be moved out of the heat and into the cool. They need to be hydrated and given cool packs to help bring down their temperature. Medical attention must be sought if after 30 minutes the person is not getting better.

In non-severe situations, in addition to the measures above, homeopathic remedies will help the system cool down and recover

Belladonna is the first remedy to go to if symptoms appear suddenly and the person’s face becomes very red and very hot. Belladonna will be your remedy if the sunstroke comes alongside a throbbing headache and the person becomes very sensitive to light and any kind of jarring motion.

Go to Glonoine if the person suffering from heatstroke experiences waves of pounding, intense pain. They will want to keep their head as still as they can keep it as if they move, the pain will increase.

The remedy Sol, made from sunlight itself, is an excellent remedy for any ill-effects of the sun – sunstroke, sunburn or sun headaches. It would be a brilliant remedy to pack in your suitcase before going somewhere even hotter on holiday.
