5 simple but healthy changes for January 2026

It’s the 12th of January already and with the shorter days and low temperatures, keeping to resolutions may well be very hard. So here are five very simple healthy changes you can make, and even if you only follow one but you follow it consistently, your body will thank you.

  1. Hot water and lemon first thing in the morning to boost the liver. Our poor livers are under constant pressure in our busy lives, so give your liver some love when you wake up.

  2. Get some fermented foods into your system every day. Drink some kefir or kombucha, eat some kimchi or sauerkraut and make your sandwich with sourdough bread. Fermented foods promote a healthier and more diverse gut biome, which translates into better digestion and stronger immunity.

  3. Get some early morning daylight. If you can, take a stroll as the sun comes up and catching this early morning light will stimulate melatonin production, which in turn will really help you get a good night’s sleep.

  4. Give your body some magnesium. Magnesium is involved in more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. Many of us are deficient in magnesium due to the processed foods and caffeine we consume and the stress we have as part of our everyday lives. To replenish your magnesium levels, consider treating yourself to an Epsom salt bath 2 or 3 times a week.

  5. Bring some movement into your life. This doesn’t mean you have to sign up to a gym if gyms aren’t your thing; it doesn’t mean you have to jog if jogging has no appeal. There are so many kinds of movement – from yoga to salsa, from walking to wild swimming. Try to find the one that you like and that you can stick to.
