The homeopathic approach to healing eczema is a holistic one. If you see the rash on the skin as separate from the rest of the person and treat it as such – as just a skin issue and nothing more – then the likelihood is that at best the skin symptoms will return the moment the medication stops. However, if you aim to elevate the health of the person, skin included and top of the list, real, lasting healing can take place.
Working holistically means a recognition and understanding of the person suffering eczema. When did their symptoms begin? Was this a particularly stressful time? Were there any significant changes in life at that time that may have led to the appearance of the eczema? The choice of homeopathic remedy will take into account as closely as possible the whole person and not just their skin.
Below are three remedies that very often used in practice for eczema.
Sulphur
No description of the homeopathic approach to eczema would be complete without the mention of the brilliant remedy Sulphur. Sulphur is indicated for eczema that feels much worse for any kind of heat, woollen clothing, water and at night in the heat of bed. The rash is red and itches and burns, it bleeds after scratching. This remedy may be useful for eczema that has been treated with steroids for a lengthy period.
Alumina
Dryness is key to this eczema. The skin is so dry that that it becomes rough, thick, cracked and even fissured. The rash may be worse in the winter and may have a discharge, especially after scratching.
As Aluminium, from which this remedy is made, is an ingredient in long-life infants’ food and milk, it may come in useful for babies who develop eczema when they are weaned.
Natrum Muriaticum (pictured here)
This fabulous remedy is indicated for eczema which dates back to a time of emotional upset. This is especially the case if the eczema appears on the margin of the hair, the eyelids, around the mouth, on the hands or in the flexures.
The eczema may be red raw with crusty eruptions and chapping or cracks. Elsewhere, the skin may well be greasy. The skin will feel much worse in the sun but better in the open air.
