Merry Christmas and happy homeopathy to you. Love it, hate it or grin and bear it, Christmas will usually provoke some reaction in us. If that reaction is problematic, homeopathy will certainly have something to offer.
This week, we look at emotional responses to this very emotionally loaded festival.
Insomnia from excitement
Insomnia can have many causes, but when it is related to feeling overexcited about a coming event such as Christmas, the number one remedy to think of is Coffea, which is coffee in its homeopathic form. This is a perfect example of the principle of “like cures like” on which homeopathy is based. We know that a drink of coffee at the wrong time can cause sleeplessness. But if the sleeplessness is due to anticipatory excitement, then the remedy Coffea can be really helpful.
Anticipatory anxiety
Christmas can involve social events that take you out of your comfort zone. If this brings up feelings of anxiety which turn into “what if” worries, fear of being late and needing to hurry, Argentum Nitrate may be a good remedy for you. It is very likely to be a suitable remedy for you if the anxiety comes with palpitations or digestive upsets.
Loneliness
Christmas is said to be such a family time, but when there is no family or that family is far away, it can be a huge challenge emotionally. The first remedy to think of for feelings of loneliness is Pulsatilla. It may be a good fit for you if the sense of loneliness makes you very tearful and despondent and makes you want to reach out to others for support and kind words.
Grief
Christmas can be a time when we remember those who we’d like to be with but who aren’t there. This could be through bereavement or through broken relationships, but in either case, for that acute feeling of grief, Ignatia is the first remedy to think of. Ignatia will be especially helpful if the feelings of grief bring a very highly emotional response.
I hope this has been of some help. Please feel free to get in touch if you have any queries.
