Homeopathy for UTIs

Cystitis is an acute bladder infection that can cause a great deal of discomfort and make life very difficult for the person suffering it. Keeping homeopathic remedies at home to reach for at the first sign of any infection can circumvent the need for antibiotics and their harmful effects on your all-important gut flora.

Below, there’s a description of some key homeopathic remedies for cystitis that can be used at home. However, it’s vitally important to monitor symptoms closely as professional assistance is required if symptoms worsen and include a fever, pain in your back or your sides, or you see any blood in your urine.

Recurrent cystitis is something that should be addressed with the help of a professional homeopath so the underlying causes can be tackled, but do have a read of the following remedies and consider obtaining ones to use from home in case of acute symptoms.

Cantharis
Cantharis is indicated for people who experience intense cutting or burning pain before, during and after urination. There’s a constant desire to urinate but urine is often only passed drop by drop. There’s a burning thirst but no desire to drink and a dread of going to the loo.

Sarsparilla
Here the pain is enough to make the person scream and can be worse at the end of the flow. Curiously, it may be easier for the person to urinate while standing.

Staphysagria
This is homeopathy’s number one for what was once known as “honeymoon cystitis”. It works a treat for cystitis that is brought on by sex. There is burning pain felt during and after urination, and even the smallest drop of urine can be felt travelling through the urethra.

Berberis
Berberis Vulgaris (pictured here) is a brilliant remedy for the whole urinary tract and it can be very beneficial to take one dose daily for a couple of weeks once the remedies above for the acute infection have done their trick, to help ensure that the whole infection has cleared.

In addition to homeopathic remedies, if you are experiencing symptoms of cystitis, increase your intake of water, try not to put off going to the toilet despite the pain and make sure as much as possible to empty the bladder. You could also take one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in water before you eat, as the alkaline nature of soda helps balance the acidity of the cystitis and alleviates symptoms.

I hope this helps. Please get in touch for more information.
