Though we call these pains “Growing Pains”, they are linked more to the overuse of muscles and muscle fatigue than to the actual growth of bones.
The pain is often experienced as an ache, cramping feeling or even as a throbbing pain. Children usually get them in their calves, the front of the thigh or behind the knees. The pain can be such that it disrupts sleep, as it is characteristically felt in the evening or at night.
Far and away, the number one remedy for growing pain is Calcium Phosphate. Calcium Phosphate is found in the bones, teeth, and connective tissue and taken homeopathically, restores tone to weakened tissue.
If your child is particularly liable to “growing pain” after a very active day, you may want to consider the following homeopathic combination remedy : Arnica, Rhus Tox and Ruta. I would give a dose of this remedy after prolonged exercise to aid repair. It’s also a brilliant remedy to have in any home pharmacy as it is the first remedy to think of after uncomplicated, non-severe injuries such as overstraining or bumps and bruises.
